“There’s never been infidelity in our marriage. Never,” the King Richard star said. “Jada and I talk about everything, and we have never surprised one another with anything ever.”

The 53-year-old is doing well this award season, having already won a BAFTA, SAG Award and Critics Choice Award for his portrayal of Richard Williams, the father and tennis coach of Venus and Serena Williams.

However, the actor’s personal life has long been making headlines as he and his wife have spoken about their open relationship and non-monogamous marriage.

During an interview with Gayle King on CBS Sunday Morning, the host asked him if there were ever affairs in their marriage.

“I have decided that chatter about my life can be of benefit to people,” Smith explained, per People. “I think that chatter is the first stage to having a real conversation and being able to truly explore if some of the things in your heart are loving or poisonous.”

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have been one of Hollywood’s most beloved couples for decades after tying the knot in 1997.

In 2020, Jada Pinkett Smith famously revealed that she had what she called an “entanglement” with singer August Alsina years ago while she and her husband were on a break.

Months after his wife’s revelation, Smith also revealed that he had also sought affection outside of their marriage which evolved into a non-monogamous arrangement.

“Jada never believed in conventional marriage. Jada had family members that had an unconventional relationship. So she grew up in a way that was very different than how I grew up,” Smith told GQ.

“There were significant, endless discussions about ‘What is relational perfection? What is the perfect way to interact as a couple?’ And for the large part of our relationship, monogamy was what we chose, not thinking of monogamy as the only relational perfection.”

He continued: “We have given each other trust and freedom, with the belief that everybody has to find their own way. And marriage for us can’t be a prison. And I don’t suggest our road for anybody. I don’t suggest this road for anybody.

“But the experiences that the freedoms we’ve given one another… and the unconditional support, to me, is the highest definition of love.”

In November 2021, Smith opened up about experiencing “raging jealousy” over his wife’s relationship with the late Tupac Shakur.

“Though they were never intimate, their love for each other is legendary—they defined ‘ride or die,’” he writes in his tell-all memoir Will.

“In the beginning of our relationship, my mind was tortured by their connection. He was PAC! And I was me.”
