And while Indian tennis fans still do not know who will represent the nation at the Olympics, they do know that their top players will be seeded at the grass court major – often considered the most prestigious tennis event in the world
India’s top ranked doubles player Leander Paes will be seeded 4th with his Czech partner Radek Stepanek, with whom he combined to win the Australian Open. Paes did not partner with Stepanek at the French Open as the Czech player had prior commitments. Meanwhile, Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna are seeded 7th. The Indian duo have not made an impression at the slams this year although they have done well at the regular ATP events.
In the women’s doubles event, Indian Sania Mirza and American partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands are seeded 13th. Sania is currently ranked 12th in the world in doubles.
Sania will also be among the top seeds in the mixed doubles where she will partner with Mahesh Bhupathi.
Wimbledon gets underway on Monday.
